Activation is running a unique sponsorship and workshop programme in Kenya.
With the help of individual sponsors and supporters we are sending 11 orphans to school. All are expected to complete and graduate from secondary school in the next 5-7 years.
In addition we run week long workshops during the school breaks for the orphans with an emphasis in teaching environmental studies. The programme provides the group of orphans with both a peer support group and a network of adults interested and committed to their successful development. The workshop setting importantly allows for us to get to know and address the various needs and challenges that orphans face in their struggle to become viable and contributing adults in the world. The workshops provide additional tutoring and support badly needed for children facing the world with little resources and no parents.
Our workshops are run by well qualified local individuals with an environmental studies knowledge base. We have also had guest teachers from Canada and the UK to participate in the workshops sharing different cultural perspectives on environmental issues.
Activation is committed to these 11 individual orphans and to our goal of making a quality education available to more orphans in need. We plan to build an educational institution in the future to further our goal. A recently retired primary & secondary school teacher Mike Chumley attended a workshop in November 2006 and has joined Activation as head of sponsorship - you can read his views on the programme by clicking here
